This is a show review for the anime named "The Future Diary" or "Mirai Nikki". This is at least the second time that I have watched this show.
Trailer:
Genre: Animation, Action, Drama, Survival Game
Plot:
Yukiteru Amano is a normal and boring high school kid. To get by with life, he writes a diary on his phone about things that he has observed throughout his day. One day, he experiences a life-changing event: his phone can predict the future. He's not the only one; there are a total of twelve future diaries. Each of these twelves future diaries are drafted into a fight-to-the-death contest. Who will win? To what ends will everyone go to survive this fight? Will Amano be one of the last ones to stand?
Review:
3.5/5 - *SPOILERS* This isn't a bad show but it is violent (obviously because it is a fight to the death struggle). The biggest issue that I had with the show this round was how terrible Yuno can be. When I previously watched this show, I think that I had missed some information because it felt a lot more complete/explained. I was surprised about Yuno being the first iteration in the second world but then her attitude made me like the show less. I mean, come on... Kidnapping your "loved one", holding him hostage, not caring about his friends or family, and all because you have a huge crush on him even though he might not care for you as much as you do for him (but are you really caring for him if you're going AWOL against everyone that's in his life?). She's nuts. I know that's a type of character [potentially called "yandere"] but it is hard to truly like Yuno because of it, which is why I knocked it down so much.
Okay, I get that the first iteration Yuno already had to go through the game once before coming back and killing the second iteration so she could play again, and there is a lot of mental stress from playing the game (and twice for her) but it is sad for Yuno to be as nuts as she is. I'm glad that Yuki was able to stay around for her, though at the same time it is hard to see him with a gal that is completely off her rocker.
I also was able to watch the OVA "Redial" which is a epilogue episode for the show and it really makes everything much better. At the end of the canon series, it was just a big black hole of emotion and no sense of closure. The OVA, however, wrapped it up and somehow the third iteration Yuno was able to break through to the second iteration Yuki (who is the winner of the second iteration death match after first iteration Yuno was killed). Between the second iteration Yuki and the third iteration Yuno, there's a hope for the future that the original series never had and a closure that is perfect. This OVA is a necessity to watch for anyone that watches this show.
Anyways, this is a good show. Not everyone would love it but I've warned you! Thanks for reading my review. There are more to come. Keep an eye out!
