Plot

After a police car chase ends with the suspect on the roof, he stands with a trigger in his hand asking for Detective Halloran. When confronted, he says that he has to decide who will die or he will die himself. In the mess, the cops shoot off the man's hand as he is touching the trigger and someone (against Halloran's orders) shoots him in the chest. "The Game Has Begun," says the man struggling.

We then find a homicide victim hanging from a bridge in the park, his face covered in a metal bucket. When he is brought in for his autopsy, they find that there is a piece of skin cut out of his face in the shape of a jigsaw piece. "But Kramer has been dead for 10 years," they say, confounded. They find an audio recording on his body that has the voice of Kramer but they are still confused. Let's run some diagnostic tests to see if it is or if it is a copycat. Well, it is Kramer's voice but how can that be when he's already dead?

The game is between five contestants. The hanging victim with the bucket on his head was the first one dead. The other four are trying to survive but they each have their vices from the past - thieving and murdering, selling a faulty motorcycle, killing a toddler and blaming her partner, and causing a friend to die due to his drinking habits. How can they survive? Is there penance that they can do to make up for the evils they have committed? And could John Kramer have actually come back from the grave, is it a copycat, or Kramer have more help than just Doctor Gordon?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

3/5 - I was really excited to see the newest Saw movie but this one left me feeling jipped. The devices were interesting but the plotline was really twisted. *SPOILERS* Replay what has happened in the past with Kramer's devices? WTF?! Why can't you let the dead man rest in peace? You had to go "dig him up" to make another Halloween movie for the franchise?

I find this movie to be the most disappointing of the Saw franchise movies, and that's something because I didn't really like Saw VI and Saw VII because Hoffman was just out for blood and didn't really give his victims chances to actually win (or to pay penance). The best part of Saw VII was Doctor Gordon coming back and getting him.
However, with this movie, even with the game being set up by Kramer in the past, the movie just didn't feel very thrilling. It didn't live up to the standards of Saw I, Saw II, and Saw III. Of course, what is to be expected from a franchise that is making its eighth installment?

For horror, the film delivered in its own ways but it just wasn't as catching as say Saw II. The plot wasn't as elaborate as any of the earlier films (pre Hoffman). It was more of a "is he back? I don't know. Let's do some mystery work" than the film plotline being mysterious and covered. I would have rathered keep out the detective work of "what the eff is going on?" but I guess that some people would like it.

Anyways, even though this is a Saw franchise film, I would not add it to my collection (personally). If you want to watch it, feel free but I warned you.

That's my review! Thanks for reading. Many more reviews are to come so keep an eye out.
