Movie Review: "Tales From The Hood 2" 10/02/18

This is my movie review for "Tales From The Hood 2" released October 2, 2018. I watched this via Netflix.

Trailer

Cast
Keith David                              Portifoy Simms
Bill Martin Williams                  Dumass Beach

Plot

Mr. Dumass Beach has a robot with AI that needs to learn to protect America against aliens, hoodlums, murderers, rapists, etc. He has asked Mr. Portifoy Simms to come tell the robot tales that the robot can learn from - how to distinguish between the good and the bad. Of course, Mr. Simms tells some horror stories that are very weird but hey, the robot is learning! Will the robot learn what it needs to so it can do its American duty and protect the citizens?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

2.5/5 - *SPOILERS* The stories inside of the movie that Mr. Simms is telling are all very strange. One has a black-face doll that comes to life, kills two people, and impregnates a girl (that was trying to steal him) with hundreds of little dolls. Another story has two women that turn out to be vampires. A third story has two guys trying to get the money out of one dude but accidentally kill him and try using a "seance" to figure out where he hid his money, but it turns against them.

The best two stories of the whole anthology was the one about respecting the sacrifices before you. If those of the past did not give sacrifices, maybe the modern day black man would be unable to vote and to marry a white woman. He had forgotten the sacrifices and was reminded, with the modern day changing when those in the past didn't sacrifice themselves, how life had changed or how the past makes the present. When his pregnant wife suddenly doesn't remember him and charges him with kidnapping and raping her, he finds himself in a very strange predicament. It is only with the sacrifices of the past (a boy refusing to let himself be dehumanized, a girl being beaten to death, etc) that the modern day's comforts and rights can be given. *SPOILERS* The modern day man gives himself up so that the modern day can be what it had been and so his unborn child could live.

The last story was also pretty good about how the robot has learned throughout the movie. Turns out that he finds Mr. Beach to be the worst of all out there, due to his lying/deceiving, profit seeking, racist, and womanizing ways. It also turns out that Mr. Simms is the devil taking Mr. Beach to hell.

In all, it was rather a waste of time. I liked the two last stories but to get through the rest was very humdrum. If you want to watch it, I warn you that the stories inside are rather odd. I wouldn't watch it again, in my opinion, but that's me.
