Movie Review: "Waxwork" 06/17/88

This is a movie review for "Waxwork", released June 17, 1988. I watched this via my Roku.

Trailer

Cast

Zach Galligan                  Mark
Deborah Foreman          Sarah
Michelle Johnson          China
David Warner                  Waxwork Man
Eric Brown                 James
Clare Carey                 Gemma
Dana Ashbrook         Tony

Plot

Neighborhood teenagers are trying to find something to do with their lives when a waxwork museum opens up in a nearby neighborhood - with special invitation only to a midnight showing. They go to the waxwork and find themselves stepping into the scenes depicting evil (Marquis de Sade, mummy, Dracula, werewolf, etc). Is there a sinister plot beneath this waxwork museum? If so, can they survive it and/or defeat it?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

3/5 - Bland story over all. Not much action and not much character building. It was interesting that the owner of the waxwork had a background from the area, but that didn't give much flavor to the plot.

I could see this movie being much more interesting/horrific back in the day when it came out but for nowadays, it sucks (in my honest opinion). I can say that I have seen it but I would not recommend it; bummer.

That's my movie review! Thanks for reading. More reviews are to come.

Movie Review: "Whale Rider" 08/29/03

This is a movie review for "Whale Rider", released August 29, 2003. I watched this via my Roku.

Trailer

Cast

Keisha Castle-Hughes              Paikea
Rawiri Paratene                        Koro

{Others involved but these are the main ones I wish to mention.}

Plot

There is a legend about how the Whangara people came to be in New Zealand: a whale rider named Paikea rode the great whale, came to the place, and established the people there. His descendents are ruled by the first-born male of the leader. When the newest generation brings a still-born male son and a living daughter, the world is thrown into chaos for those that believe in the old ways. The leader named Koro tells his son that he needs to have another son but, as the son lost both his own son and his wife during the delivery process, he leaves his daughter to the care of his parents. Before she had died, the wife named her daughter Paikea like the great whale rider, which Koro refused to accept because that was a male's name. As Pai grows, Koro finds that he loves her more but she could never inherit the place of the leader, or can she? Pai struggles to find her place in the village and tries to let her grandfather know what she desires to do with her life. Will she succeed or will she step down from potentially inheriting the leadership position because of her gender?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

4/5 - It was hard to see Paikea struggling to win the acceptance of her grandfather, but she persevered. I respect this girl a lot and think all should see how amazing women can be. Gender roles might still be present in the mindset of many older people but that doesn't mean you have to stick to them. If you are a guy that likes to wear makeup, go for it. If you are a gal that likes to mosh pit, go for it. Don't let your gender define who you are or what you can do for your life.

That's my movie review! Thanks for reading. More reviews are on the way.

Holly Hunter                                  Helen Parr / Elastigirl (voice)
Sarah Vowell                                  Violet Parr (voice)
Huck/Huckleberry Milner                  Dashiell Parr (Dash) (voice)
Catherine Keener                          Evelyn Deavor (voice)
Eli Fucile                                         Jack-Jack Parr (voice)
Bob Odenkirk                                 Winston Deavor (voice)
Samuel L. Jackson                         Lucius Best / Frozone (voice)
Brad Bird                                         Edna Mode (E) (voice)

Plot

Mr. Incredible (Bob Parr) and Elastigirl (Helen Parr) are superheroes as well as spouses. They are raising their children Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack as they are also trying to bring superheroes back into good favor with the public. The Deavor siblings (Winston and Evelyn) suggest a way to do so: have Elastigirl go out, break rules about no supers in public, and win back the public's opinion in a positive and minimal-finances way. Can Bob handle being stay-at-home dad while his wife thwarts evil plans away from home? Can the kids handle having their mom away? Can Elastigirl's influence in society help legalize superheroes?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

4.5/5 - *SPOILERS* I guessed that someone at Devtech was behind Screenslaver because it just seemed too easy to foil his plots, especially since screens could be fitted inside of goggles. I figured it out when the "pizza guy" came out of the building with a "what happened?" confused reation.

Jack-Jack was AMAZING. He was the best of the whole movie, honestly, because we were constantly wondering how the family was going to deal with his strange mood swings / power changes. It was weird for him copying Edna but okay, whatever.

Best scene ever, Jack-Jack versus the raccoon:

The Elastigirl bike was awesome as she was able to split it apart and sling shot around with her stretchy body.

Evelyn telling Helen she shouldn't have trusted her was a very close-to-home thing for me because it seems sometimes the only people that you can trust are yourself and (sometimes) your family, but sometimes even that trust is betrayed. [HAHAHAHA - Evil Endeavor, if you read it differently.]

Compared to the first movie: more entertaining and close-to-home for those that are of adulting/parenting age. More interesting because of Jack-Jack's powers being discovered by his family (like wtf was up with the raccoon?). Bad guy plot was a bit noticeable and was worse than the bad guy plot in the first movie, but Elastigirl, Mr. Incredible and the kids pulled together as a team once again and saved the day. :-D

Anyways, that's my review! Thanks for reading. More reviews are on the way.

Movie Review: "Anti Matter" 09/08/17

This is a movie review for "Anti Matter", released September 08, 2017. I watched this on February 3, 2019.

Trailer

Cast

Yaiza Figueroa             Ana
Philippa Carson             Liv
Tom Barber-Duffy             Nate

Plot

As a scientist Ana plays with psychics, she find finds a vibration frequency that moves objects out of their current location. Where does it go? She doesn't know but she plays with it a bit more and finds out that she can transport an object from one location to another within seconds. Wormhole technology? What does this mean? What can be sent? What are the potential financial rewards from the discovery of this technology? Can living creatures (and humans) go through it?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

3/5 - *SPOILERS* The idea of losing the soul when teleporting through a wormhole was interesting but to find the narrator Ana was a "copy of light" was even more interesting. They didn't really explain it much, though, which was disappointing. Everything was so complicated that it was hard to understand the movie on the first go. Maybe a second round of watching it would help it make more sense, since it is very vague due to the main character's amnesia and her friends seeemingly not caring.

Anyways, that's my movie review. Thanks for reading! More reviews are on their way.

A terrorist attack rocks the New Orleans community when a ferry full of children, civilians and military explodes. As the police try to figure out what happened, Doug Carlin is introduced to a new technology - they are able to look back in time to four days ago. One victim of the terrorist attack doesn't seem to have the same symptoms of the attack so Carlin decides to see why she was different. When he finds out that the technology is not just viewing recorded video but is a look into the past, he wonders if he can stop the attack and save this girl. Can he or is time permanent once we have past through?

Rating Criteria

0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.

3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

3.5/5 - Plot line was complicated but over simplified. It talked about how manipulating time changes or controls what happens in yesterday's future ("I haven't changed a thing."), but didn't talk about consequences. You saw the note on the fridge that you placed there because you had placed it there, so you place it there again to give you hope. If he kept creating the future that he knew would happen, how come he actually changed the future? Sure, a slight change in the time frame can potentially change the future but they don't talk about it. Just because she was there and did that (since she wasn't killed like she had been), then there was a chance to change the attack?

It was a bit confusing and could have dived into the time-traveling questions. Aside that, it was a fair movie.

Anyways, that's my movie review. Thanks for reading! More reviews to come, so keep an eye out.
