Plot

Ichigo, a high schooler, is just trying to live his life. He lost his mother years ago and his family has never been the same since. It is just his father, himself, and his two younger sisters. Oh, and the fact that Ichigo has the uncanny ability to converse with souls that have not passed on from this life after death...

One day, a female named Rukia appears and tells him that he has a lot of spiritual energy. They are attacked by a very powerful Hollow (a monstrous ghost that if not defeated and purified, will consume other souls). Rukia is unable to continue fighting the Hollow but she knows that Ichigo has a lot of spiritual power so she gives him the ability to be a Soul Reaper in her place so that they can both survive the Hollow's attack. Now that Ichigo has the Soul Reaper ability, Rukia cannot return to her world without the ability. Ichigo has to train to become a stronger Soul Reaper or the transference of the ability to Rukia might kill him. Other challenges are in front of the two of them but the main question is whether Ichigo can survive and strengthen well enough to get the ability back to Rukia.

Rating Criteria
0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

4.5/5 - It has been a while since I have watched the Bleach anime but I was excited to watch the movie. I had seen some of the show and knew the concepts behind it but this movie did well as a stand-alone movie. I can tell that the movie is not strictly according to the anime (Ichigo's mom being killed by the Grand Fisher so "that's another reason for me to fight it"; I don't recall him having sisters in the anime; I am pretty sure he didn't see ghosts in the anime before becoming a Soul Reaper; thank goodness the stuffed animal Kon was not in the movie because that would have been super annoying).

For a stand-alone movie, this was wonderful and the ending made me want to say "Give me a second movie!" (or let me watch the anime, which a live action movie should do). Highly recommended for those that are not looking for a movie that is strictly stuck on anime canon. And for those that love the show, let me know what you thought of this movie; I would love to hear your opinions!

Oh, and I watched this in Japanese with English subtitles. If you're not a fan of subtitles, then you might be out of luck with this one.

That's my movie review. Thanks for reading! More reviews to come eventually.
