This is a movie review for “TrainDriver's Diary”, released June 23, 2016 in Russia at the Moscow Film Festival. This is a Serbian film, in the Serbian language. I watched this via a streaming app on my Roku on April 25, 2019.

Trailer

Cast

Lazar Ristovski ... Ilija

Petar Korac ... Sima

{There are other characters but these are the most important and most prominent.}

Plot

An old train driver saves the life of a 10 year old orphan boy Sima that was walking on the track because he had given up on life. Many years later, the boy is a young man (having grown up under the care of a few train drivers) and has aspirations of becoming one himself. As the boy starts losing his sanity due to being afraid of running someone over, the old man starts losing his own sanity thinking his (dead) sweetheart from 25 years ago had come back. The old man sees how much the stress and worry about what it would be like running over someone is affecting the young man and starts debating on what he can do to help. How can he help the young man from losing his mind?

Official MPAA Rating (According to IMDB.com):
G / General Audiences
PG / Parental Guidance Suggested
PG-13 / Parents Strongly Cautioned
R / Restricted
X
Not Rated

Rating Criteria
0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

4.5/5 – It was a very interesting movie, especially as a commercial driver. When you're driving for a living, you do worry about what happens when you get into a crash. Of course, it is more horrific for train drivers than bus drivers because the time to stop can be miles after the crash, depending on the speed of the train. The other part about this movie that I found interesting is the fact that all of the train drivers accepted the fact that they run over cars and people all of the time because people are stupid around trains; psychologically, that is difficult to wrap the mind around realizing and coming to terms with the fact they are killers. If that is how the industry is, I would not be able to be a train driver because of this factor.

The rating was knocked down for the lack of emotion/love expressed from the adopted father to the “son”, though it was great that he and Diesel beat up the guy that threw Sima behind the wheel of a train without training/teaching him. I mean seriously, if you are taking responsibility for that much weight and power, get some training first!

(I don't understand why YouTube and IMDB both call it a "dark comedy"/"comedy" ; I did not find much comedy from it. Maybe that's because I am a commercial driver and know the fear that other commercial drivers have... Or I'm "just a square".)

Definitely at least Parental Guidance for rating because they are constantly talking about death, depression, and killing people.

That's my movie review. Thank you for reading!
