Movie Review: 'The Resident" 03/11/11 UK

This is my movie review for "The Resident", released March 11, 2011 in the UK. I watched this via Hulu on June 18, 2019.

Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery
Run Time: 1 Hour and 31 Minutes

Trailer

Notable Cast

Hilary Swank ... Dr. Juliet Devereau
Jeffrey Dean Morgan ... Max
Lee Pace ... Jack
Christopher Lee ... August

Plot

Juliet is a doctor in an ER in New York and needs to find herself a place to stay after something wrong happened with her ex Jack (he cheated?). She finds a wonderful apartment for a "steal" price. As she tries to recover from what happened with Jack, she finds herself attracted to her landlord Max (whom lives downstairs with his grandfather). Juliet tries to figure out whom she wants to be with (Jack or Max) but also starts feeling suspicious that someone is watching her at home. She sets up a surveillance system and discovers a dark truth. Who can she trust? Will it get worse than just peeping and, if so, how will she get through it?

Rating Criteria
0/5 – No value whatsoever. Absolute waste of time.
1/5 – Barely worth any time.
2/5 – Pathetic but has a bit of something to hold the attention a little.
3/5 – Somewhat kept the attention but could definitely have used more.
4/5 – Good, but not awe-strikingly amazing. Could have maybe used a bit more to the movie.
5/5 – Go see it! Wonderful movie all around. – characters, music, theme, story line, etc.

3/5 - *SPOILERS* Interesting idea about a stalker landlord (what is with him going in through the walls?) but bland. Landlord is dead at the end of the movie, after a "fight to the death" battle somehow brought on by Juliet trying to get back with Jack, but there seems to be no consequences or "wtf now" summary for Juliet's life. The ending was definitely lacking a lot but that's okay.

I would personally not really want to watch this again, but if you want to watch it, go for it. The 'space in the walls' thing really upset me because it seemed like it was being set up just for stalking, so it wasn't a spur of the moment thing, though it was probably supposed to be "old and therefore that's normal". Excuse me but creepy and therefore downgraded for it.

Anyways, that's my review. Thanks for reading! More reviews are to come eventually.
